March 18, (THEWILL)- Enyimba Football Club earned a 3-1 victory over Niger Tornadoes at home in their Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) tie on Sunday.
The game started on an even keel, with both teams creating chances but failing to convert. After a deadlocked first half, Enyimba opened the scoring in the 67th minute through Alade Balogun. Elijah Akanni doubled their lead just three minutes later, putting them firmly in control of the match.
When Uche Collins scored Enyimba’s third goal with five minutes of regular time remaining, it was obvious the home side were going to take all three points from the encounter. Niger Tornadoes still fought back valiantly and Akintunde Azeez netted a consolation goal for the visitors in the 87th minute.
The victory sees Enyimba maintain their impressive form in the NPFL, sitting in third place with 45 points. In contrast, Niger Tornadoes remain in 16th place with 30 points, having won only eight matches, drawn six, and lost 11 games this season.
The result will undoubtedly boost Enyimba’s confidence as they continue their push for the defence of the NPFL title they won last season. Meanwhile, Niger Tornadoes will need to regroup quickly to avoid being drawn into a relegation battle.
