August 31, (THEWILL) — Nigerian comedian and actor Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has shared his experience riding in a driverless Uber in Atlanta, United States.
The entertainer shared the experience on Instagram, posting a video of himself inside the vehicle as it moved through the city. The vehicle was an autonomous Jaguar I-PACE operated through Waymo’s service on Uber in Atlanta.
In the caption accompanying the video, AY wrote: “I entered Uber in Atlanta… na Jaguar, but driver no dey! Oyibo don use technology make motor drive itself. Meanwhile, for Africa, our jazz na to dey turn people into yam. When our own juju go upgrade?”
AY appeared surprised by the experience and joked about the absence of a human driver.
He said, “When oyinbo dey tell una say dem no be una mate, Una go dey follow him argue follow them dey argue.”
He added, “See, na the car dey drive himself. Na my Uber be this. E dey carry me dey go where I dey go. Dem don tell una say they no be una mate una no wan hear word una go dey do juju. They do different things; they kill people for Africa. Una own juju na to kill people.”
AY continued to marvel at the technology as the vehicle drove him to his destination.
“I unlocked the car with my phone. Started the ride with my phone. And here we go.”
The video has since attracted reactions from social media users, with many joining the conversation about autonomous vehicles, technology and Africa’s progress in the sector.
