Atletico Madrid Show Interest In Racing Genk’s Paul Onuachu

October 13, (THEWILL) – Despite recently extending his contract with Racing Genk, Nigerian international Paul Onuachu continues to be the subject of transfer speculations.

Atlético Madrid is the latest team connected with a bid for the imposing Nigerian international, according to Spanish sports news. Atletico Madrid’s sporting director Andrea Berta is said to have made contact with Racing Genk about signing Onuachu in the winter transfer market.

The Colchoneros are looking for a centre forward to complement Luis Suárez, and Onuachu is in their sights. Atlético Madrid have reportedly scouted the Nigerian several times with a view to making a bid for his services.

If Onuachu is signed, he would not count as a non-European Union player because of the Cotonou Agreement. Restrictions on foreigners playing for European Union (EU) clubs virtually ended for good when France enforced the Cotonou Agreement that literally allowed Africans and people from the Caribbean to work freely across Europe.

The former Midtjylland man put himself in the shop window after scoring 35 goals in all competitions last season, and picking up where he left off with 11 goals in 14 games this season.

Onuachu was offered to Premier League duo West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer transfer window but nothing came out of it.
