October 21, (THEWILL) – Another Aston Villa loss, this time to Fulham, has led to the club firing head coach, Steven Gerrard.
After a terrible start to the season in which the Midlands club won just two of its first 11 English Premier League games, the club pulled the trigger.
THEWILL recalls that in November 2021, the 42-year-old resigned as manager of Scottish club, Rangers, to take over Aston Villa. Since then, the former England and Liverpool captain has not found it easy and has presided over just eight victories so far this year.
Gerrard had a lot of support during the summer transfer window. In an effort to strengthen his team, he signed Diego Carlos, Philippe Coutinho, Leander Dendoncker, Boubacar Kamara, and Robin Olsen. A spokesperson for Villa said: “We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well for the future.”
Although he had maintained his upbeat attitude about turning around his team’s slump, a 2-0 loss to Chelsea was followed by a 3-0 loss to Fulham. Douglas Luiz was also sent from the game on Thursday night for a headbutt.
