November 16, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives has summoned the Service Chiefs, insisting that they must appear in person on Tuesday, November 21 at 11 am.
House Speaker, Tajudeen Abbas, made the clarification after receiving the representatives of the Service chiefs at plenary on Thursday.
Abbas asked them to convey the message to the Service Chiefs for them to appear in person.
The House had summoned the service chiefs for a debate on security challenges in the country.
However, the service chiefs who failed to attend personally, sent representatives to appear on their behalf.
Raising a constitutional point of order, Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, said the House has the constitutional authority to invite any person, not only for the purpose of investigation but also for dialogue.
“It is not satisfactory that they are not here in person. I want to move that these sectoral engagements be suspended until the service chiefs come to address us personally”, he said.
The order was unanimously adopted while the House reinvited the service chiefs to attend the debate personally on Tuesday, November 21.
