November 20, (THEWILL) – The Kano State Police Command, has warned residents against ‘unlawfully’ protesting the appeal court judgment, sacking Abba Yusuf as governor.
The court of appeal in Abuja on Friday, upheld the verdict of the Kano state governorship petition tribunal, that nullified the election of Yusuf and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gawuna.
Reacting to reports of organised protests in the state, the police commissioner, said attempts to disrupt the peace in the state would be truncated and perpetrators would be arrested.
Muhammad Gumel, Kano State police commissioner in a statement issued on Monday, by Abdullahi Haruna, Spokesperson of the Command, said “The information revealed that the intention of the protesters is to shut down the state in an action which may likely result in violence.
“It’s on this note that the police command issued a warning to residents of the state, to be extra careful as whoever intends to conduct any protest or procession should do so in accordance with the provisions of the law.
“Furthermore, you will all recall that prior to the court ruling, the leaderships of both NNPP and APC, had been invited by the Kano state police command where a peace accord was signed on Thursday, 16th November 2023.”
