June 27, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Caretaker Committee in Plateau State, Senator Tunde Ogbeha, has described the All Progressives Congress government in Plateau State as “interim.”

Ogbeha, who is also a former military administrator of Akwa Ibom State, dismissed the APC as a pretender to political power in Plateau and declared his readiness to reposition the PDP in the state.

Speaking in Jos, capital of the state, Ogbeha described his new assignment in Plateau as crucial and reconciliatory. He promised to bring all contending interests together and provide a fair playing ground for a free, fair and transparent congress that would produce a leadership acceptable to all.

He explained that the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party had to set up a caretaker committee to take charge of the party’s affairs in Plateau, following a court order that set aside the state executive of the party.

He said, “We are here to put in place, at all levels, the organs of the party”.

The immediate task facing the committee, he added, is the party’s participation in the forthcoming local government elections which programme had already been announced by the State independent Electoral commission.

“We have come here with a mindset to conduct whatever congresses we are conducting in a free and fair manner. We do not have any preferred candidates. And we are doing this because we want to give Plateau State the best. Plateau State is a PDP state. So, no matter the hurdles placed before us, we must do the best we can,” Ogbeha stated.

He said that his committee had been given three months to erect the relevant party structures, stressing that the committee was determined to not only perform to the best of its ability, but also to deliver holistically within the stipulated time.

Promising that the committee’s operations would be as transparent as possible, Ogbeha also called on the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission to be fair to all the parties and neutral in its activities and decisions.
