Anxiety In Edo As 17 Corps Members Test Positive For COVID-19

August 04, (THEWILL) – At least 17 graduates deployed to Edo State for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have been admitted to the Stella Obasanjo Hospital in the state for treatment.

Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Osagie Ebomwonyi, who disclosed the development during an inspection tour of the state’s Infectious Disease Isolation Centre by Governor Godwin Obaseki, said although the cases were unvaccinated, studies and analysis were being undertaken to see if they represented the presence of the Delta variant in the state.

However, a Personal Assistant to the State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Ozeto Waheed, said the 17 corps members have not been confirmed to be carrying the COVID-19 Delta variant.

Waheed said that the deployed corps members took the COVID-19 test at the entrance gate of the orientation camp, adding that those who tested positive for the virus were usually transferred to the isolation centre.

Governor Obaseki confirmed the readiness of his administration to effectively deal with the Delta variant of COVID-19, while insisting that no case had so far been confirmed in the State.

He assured that arrangements were being made to vaccinate more Edo residents as part of efforts to protect them from COVID-19.
