December 20, (THEWILL) – Senate president, Godswill Akpabio, has sworn in the former minister of Labour and Employment, Simon Bako Lalong, as the senator representing Plateau South..
Lalong was on Wednesday, administered the oath of office and oath of allegiance by Clerk to the Senate, Chinedu Akubueze, on the directives of the Senate President.
THEWILL earlier reported that Lalong, on Tuesday, December 19, formally resigned from the Federal Executive Council as minister.
The development followed the Court of Appeal judgement, which had the former Plateau State governor validly elected a lawmaker to represent the Plateau South senatorial district.
The Court of Appeal, Abuja, nullified the participation of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its senatorial candidate in the February 25National Assembly elections for Plateau South Senatorial District, Napoleon Bali, on the ground of refusal to carry out a lawful order of the court.
Delivering judgement, a three-member panel, led by Justice Elfreda Williams-Dawodu, declared as unlawful and wasted votes cast for PDP in the election and declared the immediate-past governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, as the rightful winner of the Plateau South Senatorial District election.
