December 18, (THEWILL) – The Court of Appeal, Abuja has upheld the election victory of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri in the March 18 gubernatorial election in Adamawa State.
A three-member panel of the appellate court, in a judgment on Monday, dismissed the appeal filed by Aishatu Dahiru Binani, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the election.
The Justices unanimously upheld the judgment of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which earlier validated the election of Fintiri as duly elected Governor of Adamawa State.
The Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, chaired by Justice Theodora Obi Uloho, had on Saturday, October 28, dismissed the joint petition filed by the APC and Binani against the declaration of Governor Fintiri of the PDP as the winner of the March 18, 2023, governorship election in the Adamawa State.
THEWILL recalls the controversy stirred by the suspended Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, when he declared Binani winner of the governorship election with results in only 10 out of the 21 local government areas of the State collated by the Commission.
While INEC voided the April 16 controversial declaration, President Buhari had directed an investigation of his actions following his suspension.
Yunusa-Ari is facing a six-count charge bothering on false declaration of election results, breaching oath of neutrality, disorderly conduct during the election, inciting disturbance, and impersonating a public servant.
