August 21, (THEWILL) — Aston Villa have completed the signing of Aaron Wan-Bissaka from West Ham United on a season-long loan, giving the defender an immediate return to Premier League football after the Hammers’ relegation.
The deal also includes a conditional obligation to buy, although the exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed. West Ham had previously been seeking a fee of around £25 million for the right-back.
Wan-Bissaka, 28, was absent from West Ham’s opening two Championship matches of the season as negotiations over his departure continued.
He will now link up with Unai Emery’s Aston Villa squad as the club prepares for another campaign in the top flight.
The defender could make his Villa debut when they travel to face Brighton on Sunday.
His arrival also gives Wan-Bissaka the chance to return to the Champions League, with Villa qualifying for Europe’s elite competition after finishing fourth in the Premier League last season and winning the Europa League.
From Manchester United to West Ham
Wan-Bissaka joined West Ham from Manchester United in 2024, signing a seven-year contract after making 190 appearances for the Old Trafford club.
During his time at United, he won the League Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024 before moving to east London.
He spent two seasons with West Ham and made 65 appearances in all competitions.
However, the club’s relegation to the Championship at the end of last season opened the door for the defender to move back to the Premier League.
His departure now leaves West Ham without one of their most experienced options at right-back as they prepare for life in the second tier.

The move comes shortly after Wan-Bissaka represented DR Congo at the 2026 World Cup.
He started all four of his country’s matches during the tournament as DR Congo reached the last-32 stage.
His international experience, combined with more than 250 Premier League appearances across Manchester United and West Ham, gives Villa another proven option as they balance domestic and European football.
Villa will be hoping his defensive qualities can strengthen their squad as they prepare for a demanding season involving the Premier League, Champions League and domestic competitions.
The move also represents a significant turnaround for Wan-Bissaka, who only recently found himself playing in the Championship with West Ham.
He now has the opportunity to compete at the highest level again, with Champions League football awaiting at Villa Park.
