The intervention, organised under the M.A. Adamu Medicare for Renewed Hope Agenda Free Medical Outreach Programme, is aimed at assisting pregnant women who may be unable to afford some of the basic materials required for childbirth.

Adamu said about 100 pregnant women were selected in each ward without consideration for political affiliation, stressing that the programme was designed to provide support based on need rather than party membership.

The SDP candidate also strengthened his campaign organisation by distributing motorcycles to ward coordinators and vehicles to key directorates, including the women’s wing, medical team and operations unit.
September 21, (THEWILL) – The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, retired Inspector-General of Police, Muhammad Abubakar Adamu, has completed a welfare outreach across all 147 wards in the state, also strengthening his campaign structure ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The latest phase of the intervention was held in Lafia Local Government Area on Saturday, September 19, 2026, bringing the free medical and empowerment programme to the 13 wards in the local government.
The outreach was organised under the M.A. Adamu Medicare for Renewed Hope Agenda Free Medical Outreach Programme, which the former police chief said was designed to provide practical support to pregnant women across the state.
Speaking with journalists at the event, Adamu said the initiative was targeted at women who might not have the financial capacity to obtain some of the basic materials required for childbirth.
He described the programme as an empowerment initiative to provide a helping hand to pregnant women in communities across Nasarawa.
“What we’ve seen today is part of our programmes we’ve been doing in all the wards in Nasarawa State. It is an empowerment for pregnant women. Most of them don’t have the opportunity to acquire some of these necessary materials for the birth of their children. So, we felt it was necessary to come to their aid by giving them a helping hand”, Adamu said.
100 Pregnant Women Targeted In Each Ward
According to Adamu, approximately 100 pregnant women were selected in each ward to benefit from the intervention. He said the selection process was random and was not based on political affiliation, party membership or association with any particular organisation.
“In every ward, we have about 100 women, and the criteria for selection are random. We don’t care which party you belong to; we don’t care which association you belong to, in as much as you’re pregnant and you’re from that ward, you’ll benefit from it”, he added.
Adamu said the programme had been implemented in all 147 wards across Nasarawa, with Lafia being the final local government area reached.
“It started long ago. We have 147 wards in Nasarawa State, and we’ve been to all the wards to do a similar thing, and this is the last local government, and we have 13 wards here”, he stated.
The Lafia event therefore marked the completion of the statewide phase of the outreach, according to the SDP candidate.
His wife, Hajiya Rukaiya Adamu, popularly known as Kwalliyan Lafia, was also present at the event.

Beyond the welfare intervention, Adamu used the occasion to strengthen his campaign structure as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The SDP candidate distributed motorcycles to ward coordinators to facilitate their movements and enable them to carry out their responsibilities within their respective wards.
He also announced the provision of vehicles for the campaign’s Director-General and other key directorates.
Among the units to receive vehicles, according to Adamu, are the women’s wing, medical team, mechanics and operations directorate.
“For our staff in each ward, today we will give motorcycles so that it will help them carry out their tasks”, he said.
Explaining the rationale behind the distribution of the vehicles and motorcycles, Adamu said the logistics were intended to support the campaign’s activities as it expands its operations across the state.
“All of these are brought to help with the campaigns. If we continue, we will see other areas that need campaign items, which will also be provided”, he said.
The distribution provides the SDP campaign with additional mobility at ward level, particularly for coordinators expected to maintain contact with communities and oversee grassroots activities.
