September 08, (THEWILL) — The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Nasarawa State, former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has intensified his grassroots campaign with a major agricultural empowerment programme.
He unveiled what he described as a comprehensive food security agenda ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Adamu, who recently emerged as the SDP governorship candidate, on Tuesday extended the empowerment initiative to communities across Nasarawa North Senatorial District, covering Akwanga, Wamba and Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Areas.
The programme, carried out alongside his wife, Hajiya Rukayya Abubakar Adamu, focused on providing farmers with tractors, agricultural equipment and other resources aimed at increasing food production and encouraging mechanised farming across the zone.
According to the campaign organisation, the initiative is designed to go beyond the distribution of farm inputs by equipping farmers with machinery that will expand cultivation, improve productivity and reduce the burden of manual farming.
During the latest phase of the exercise, seven beneficiaries who were absent during an earlier empowerment programme in Akwanga received three-wheel motorcycles.
Hajiya Rukayya personally contacted the beneficiaries and invited them to the ERCC headquarters in Akwanga, where the items were formally presented.
Agriculture remains the mainstay of Nasarawa State’s economy, with thousands of residents engaged in crop cultivation and livestock production.

As political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 governorship election, food security, mechanised farming and rural development have emerged as major campaign issues, with candidates outlining strategies to improve agricultural productivity and strengthen the state’s economy.
Speaking at the event, Adamu said agriculture would form the cornerstone of his administration if elected governor, stressing that food security remains essential to economic growth and poverty reduction in Nasarawa State.
“We must empower our farmers with the tools they need to produce more. Food security will be a priority under my administration,” Adamu said.
He noted that providing modern farming equipment would increase agricultural output, create employment opportunities and make farming more attractive, particularly for young people.
Adamu also pledged to implement policies that would strengthen value chains, improve farmers’ access to equipment and create an enabling environment for increased agricultural investment across the state.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the intervention, describing it as a significant boost to farming activities in their communities. They said the equipment would ease transportation and farming operations while improving productivity and incomes.
The farmers also prayed for the former police chief’s success in the 2027 governorship election, expressing optimism that sustained investment in agriculture would enhance food production across Nasarawa State.
