2023: Cross River PDP Inaugurates Support Groups

September 15, (THEWILL) – The Cross River State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has inaugurated about 100 support groups ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The support groups are drawn from the 196 wards of the state and will help galvanise voters to ensure the success of the party and all its candidates in the state.

The state chairman of the party, Venatius Ikem, inaugurated the groups in an elaborate event that also included a public lecture themed: “Renewing Democracy in Cross River State to meet the unprecedented challenges of our time.”

Speaking while inaugurating the groups, the state party chairman charged party men to work for the success of the party.

“Often we mistake support groups for avenues for supporters to make money, but it’s the opposite.

“When you volunteer, it behoves you to ensure the party succeeds and it’s your responsibility to mobilise human and material resources to support your candidate.

“I am very impressed by your efforts and one of the directorates will be for support groups and we will rely heavily on you to win this election”, he said.

Also, Lady Emana Duke Ambrose, the state party’s Deputy Governorship candidate, charged the supporters to return to their base and work.

Lady Ambrose, who spoke on behalf of Professor Onor, said, “we should not support groups that stay in the city centres.

“We encourage you to go back to your base and work to take back the state for ourselves”, he said.

Earlier, Professor Aniefiok Akpabio, the guest lecturer, said “each and every one of us has a part to play to make the state what we want.”

In his presentation, he argued that “one of the things we are to do is to know what the real problem of the state is and how to handle it.

“We should be able to win the hearts of the masses with visible and evidential things because you can only be remembered by what you have done.

“Touching people’s lives is very paramount and this is not done through empty promises”, Professor Akpabio said.
