The Cross River State Police Command has cautioned members of the political class to play by the rules and avoid acts that may hinder the electoral process.
The State Police Commissioner, CP Sule Balarabe, gave the advice in Calabar, during his maiden Media engagement.
He said as preparations for next year’s general elections heats up, acts that may disrupt the electioneering process in the state will not be entertained.
In his words, “In view of the upcoming 2023 general elections and the ongoing political activities in the state, the Cross River Police Command is determined to ensure no violence, hate speeches and other conducts likely to disrupt the electioneering process is not entertained in the state.
“The Command, therefore, warns all political parties, their candidates and supporters to play by the rules and abide by all the electoral law guiding election process in the country as infractions will not be tolerated,” he said.
He added that whoever violates the law will be dealt with in line with the extant laws of the land.
On insecurity in the state, the Police Commissioner said the Command has set out a new technical intelligence gathering strategy using community policing tools, particularly at the Uyanga Federal Highway, to stem the rate of kidnapping.
The Police Commissioner also paraded six suspected criminals, who were apprehended for various offences including murder, unlawful possession of firearm, kidnapping, among others.
