2023: Akwa Ibom APC Chieftain Defects To PDP

April 27, (THEWILL) – There was excitement in the camp of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom, as a founding member, Chief Inibehe Okorie, returned to the party after a long sojourn in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking on Wednesday, during a meeting with members of the State Working Committee of PDP, led by the chairman, Mr Aniekan Akpan, Okorie, said he has returned to add value to the party in the state.

“I am delighted to come before you, having returned to the PDP. I have done the right thing by returning to the PDP. I want to commend all of you for the wonderful work you have been doing in the party, because if you people did not handle the party well, i wouldn’t have come back.

“I don’t know how you have organised the party, but I want to give credit to the governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for putting in place a very hard-working SWC, headed by my brother, Mr Aniekan Akpan. I have great honour and respect for this SWC. I am back to bring to bear the little I can offer for the success of the party in the state”, he stated.

While commending the unity and cohesion within the PDP family, Okorie noted that such values would place the party in good stead to win the upcoming polls across all competitions in the state.

The business tycoon commended governor Udom Emmanuel for uniting the party and building effective structures from the wards, chapters to the state level and pledged to join hands in the rebuilding process.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the party in the state, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, expressed delight at the return of Okorie, saying “the PDP is the only party with one house in Akwa Ibom state.

“I want to commend you for returning to your party. We need people like you to help build the party stronger and stronger” Akpan said.

He said PDP remains the only party to beat, adding that the APC from the information he was receiving had two Secretariats in the state and may likely have up to three before the season runs out.

The chairman of the ruling party in the state said he would continue to welcome other members of the party, who defected to other parties and have seen reason to return, expressing that the Umbrella is large enough to contain all of them.
