2022 Census: NPC Seeks Stakeholders’ Support

March 13, (THEWILL) – The National Population Commission is seeking the support of stakeholders to ensure the success of the upcoming national census in the country.

The Commissioner representing Cross River State in the National Population Commission, Navy Captain Charles Ogwa (retd.), made the appeal in Calabar as part of the Commission’s sensitisation for the exercise.

He assured Nigerians that the proposed population and housing census in 2022 will produce data that will not be contestable.

This, he said is so because the entire data collection, beginning with the enumeration area demarcation has already been digitalised by the Commission.

“Unlike in the past when data collection was manually done, the forthcoming exercise will be digital. Once information is received from a particular person or household, it is stringed to the local government, state and zonal headquarters of the Commission,” he said.

The NPC Commissioner stressed that areas where the commission was unable to access during the routine enumeration area demarcation, due to conflict, will now be visited.

He said the enumeration area demarcation involves five local government areas, such as Bekwarra, Obudu, Ogoja, Ikom and Etung, in Cross River State.

He appealed to people of the state to assist the commission by providing accurate information concerning themselves, their families and houses whenever enumerators pay them a visit, adding that once the information has been stringed to any database it would be difficult to change.

He explained that the exercise will last for only 10 days, if November 2022 is approved by President Muhammadu Buhari, while the general election begins in April 2023.
