November 10, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Government has approved the immediate release of over N70 million for payment of scholarships to 300 orphans of the Civilian Joint Tasks Force who lost their fathers fighting insurgency.
The Executive Secretary of the Borno State Scholarship Board, Malam Bala Isa, made this known while announcing the development in Maiduguri on Friday.
Isa disclosed that the Borno State Government would give each of the 300 orphans N200,000, which will cover their tuition fees from elementary to secondary throughout the duration of their programmes.
“I can tell you, Governor Babagana Zulum directed the immediate payments of scholarship of N73,140,000 to 300 orphans of CJTF who lost their parents to insurgents.
“Each of the CJTF orphans will receive a sum of N200,000 for the scholarship,” he said.
He also purchased a total of 1,878 admission forms for indigenes to study nursing and midwifery across 27 local government areas of the State.
Isa said the programme aims to boost healthcare delivery at local levels, adding that “as people return to their ancestry homes, many health issues are coming up so we need to ensure adequate manpower.”
He said the gesture was part of Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration’s commitment to the State’s 25-year development plan and the 10-year strategic transformation initiative.
Isa said the Governor had urged the students to be hardworking and to take their studies seriously to justify the government’s effort toward sponsoring their education.
