July 11, (THEWILL) – Novak Djokovic displayed his champion spirit at this year’s Wimbledon as he overcame a challenging start to defeat Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals.

The world number one was pushed to his limits in the first set when Rublev took the lead, but Djokovic responded with a dominant display, ultimately triumphing with a 4-6 6-1 6-4 6-3 victory. Rublev’s impressive performance would have been enough to defeat most players, but Djokovic proved once again why he is a force to be reckoned with on the grass courts.

The win not only secured Djokovic a spot in his 46th Grand Slam semi-final but also equalled the record of eight-time champion Roger Federer. Rublev’s early breakthrough gave him the edge but Djokovic quickly regained control and cruised through the second set. The Serbian star’s authority continued to prevail as he broke Rublev’s serve in the third set, though the tenacious Russian did not go down without a fight.

Djokovic demonstrated his resilience further by saving three break points and capitalising on five set points to inch closer to his 33rd consecutive victory at Wimbledon. In the fourth set, Rublev struggled to regain his footing, falling behind 3-1, and was unable to mount a comeback against the determined Djokovic. With this win, Djokovic not only reached the semifinals but also celebrated his 400th Grand Slam match, joining the elite company of Roger Federer and Serena Williams.

Awaiting Djokovic in the semifinals is Jannik Sinner, who also triumphed over a Russian opponent, Roman Safiullin, earlier in the day. This will be Djokovic’s 12th appearance in the Wimbledon semifinals, a testament to his consistent excellence in the tournament. As Djokovic continues his quest for a fifth consecutive Wimbledon title, his unwavering dominance and relentless pursuit of success make him the player to beat.
