The directive followed a briefing by the acting Executive Secretary of FCDA, Richard Dauda, who told the minister that the structures had encroached on the designated route of the major road project.

Wike warned that private developments would not be allowed to obstruct critical infrastructure or distort Abuja’s Master Plan, directing the Department of Development Control to begin the demolition immediately.

The minister also inspected the ongoing Arterial Road N16, Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road and Garki Magistrate Court projects, assuring residents that the road and court projects are expected to be delivered by December.
August 20, (THEWILL) — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of about 30 buildings allegedly constructed illegally on the Ring Road III corridor at the Karsana axis of Abuja.
Wike gave the directive on Thursday while inspecting the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III. He was accompanied by officials of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) and other relevant agencies during the inspection.
The buildings came under scrutiny after the acting Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Richard Dauda, informed Wike that the structures had been erected directly on the designated corridor of the road project.
Dauda explained that about 30 buildings had encroached on the Ring Road III corridor, potentially obstructing the construction of the major road infrastructure.
Reacting to the development, Wike directed the Department of Development Control to demolish the affected structures immediately.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. How can it be like this? It’s a road and not a layout,” the minister said.
Wike maintained that no private development should be allowed to obstruct public infrastructure or undermine the Abuja Master Plan. He stressed that the government would not compromise the integrity of major road corridors because of buildings erected in violation of approved plans.
The latest directive is part of the minister’s broader enforcement of development regulations in the FCT, where the administration has recently intensified action against structures obstructing waterways, drainage channels and other designated public spaces.
THEWILL reports that Wike had earlier ordered the demolition of structures found to have been built on waterways in parts of Abuja following recent flooding in the capital.
During the inspection, Wike described the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N16 through Ring Road III as a major infrastructure project capable of improving connectivity within the FCT. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed and delivered by December.
The road is expected to provide an important link between major parts of the capital and improve movement around the expanding districts connected to the Ring Road network.
The minister said the administration remained focused on completing critical infrastructure projects that would improve transportation and ease movement for residents.
Wike also inspected the ongoing construction of the five-kilometre Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road. The minister expressed satisfaction with the response of residents to the project, describing their excitement as an indication of the direct impact of infrastructure on communities.
He said the reaction of residents represented what he described as the “true essence of governance.”
According to him, government projects should ultimately translate into tangible improvements in the lives of residents rather than remain on paper.

Garki Magistrate Court Also Targeted For December Completion
The minister’s inspection tour also took him to the Magistrate Court project under construction in Garki. Wike expressed confidence that the project would also be completed and delivered by December.
He said the pace of work on the projects demonstrated the commitment of the FCT Administration to fulfilling promises made to residents.
“We’re well impressed that the promises made to the people are being fulfilled. Again, it’s what the Renewed Hope Agenda is all about. So we’re happy,” Wike said.
