Why Solomon Osho Opposes Adebiyi Adeleye’s Candidacy

July 31, (THEWILL) – The incumbent House of Assembly member representing Remo North Constituency on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Solomon Osho, is not happy that an aide to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Hon. Adebiyi Adeleye, won the primary election of the party.

Adeleye had contested against the incumbent and some other candidates from the party and won. A few weeks later, Osho made some allegations against Adeleye, saying that he should not be allowed to contest as the APC candidate in 2023. He claimed that Adeleye did not resign his appointment as special adviser to Governor Abiodun for contesting for the position.

Osho stated that Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act 2022 did not permit a political office holder to be eligible to participate in an election unless such a person resigned his appointment. Despite winning the election with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announcing his name as the winner of the primary, Osho said Adeleye was handpicked by some party chieftains to represent Remo North. He also mentioned an allegation levelled against Adeleye by Remo Youths Association before the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State in 2015. Then, Adeleye had been elected as the House of Assembly member, representing Remo North Constituency in 2015, but the youths of the constituency accused him of falsifying some of his documents, such as his date of birth and the schools he attended.

Osho had to take Adeleye to the Federal High Court in Abeokuta to challenge his candidacy for breaching Electoral Acts and other offences.
