Why Borno Wants To Immortalise Ex-Governors – Shettima

BEVERLY HILLS, August 10, (THEWILL) – The Borno State Governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, Monday in Maiduguri, unfolded a plan by his administration to name streets, monuments and other public structures after former governors of the state, saying it was in recognition of their invaluable services to the state over the years.

Speaking at the unveiling of a Photo Gallery of past and present leaders of the state at the Government House, Maiduguri, the state capital, Shettima said the plan was informed by the need to remember the leaders for their selfless services to the people and their enormous contributions to the development of the state while at the helm of affairs in the state.

“It is my singular honour to unveil the Photo Gallery of our former governors of the North Eastern State and subsequently Borno State. The North Eastern State was created in 1967 and subsequently Borno was carved out in February 1976,” he said at the occasion, saying that it was a pride to note that the picture of President Muhammadu Buhari was in the gallery as the former governor of the North Eastern State and subsequently Borno State.

According to Shettima, “The portraits show that power is temporary. The maximum number of years one can spend as a governor even in democratic dispensation is eight years, so we end up spending more years outside power.”

“We should strive to leave a legacy to the next generation about service to humanity. All of these governors left lasting legacies, so we have to pay tribute to all of them.”
