Werner To Return To EPL With Spurs Loan Move

January 06, (THEWILL) – Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign German striker, Timo Werner, on loan from RB Leipzig for the remainder of the 2023/2024 season. The deal contains an option for Tottenham to purchase Werner permanently next summer for a fee between £13 million and £17 million.

Werner is set for a medical in London to finalise the move. If completed as expected, the 27-year-old could make his Tottenham debut against Manchester United at Old Trafford next Sunday. The deal comes as Spurs look to strengthen their attack and defence in the January transfer window, with talks ongoing regarding Genoa centre-back, Radu Dragusin.

The former Chelsea forward has struggled for playing time at RB Leipzig this season, prompting him to push for a winter transfer. Manager, Marco, confirmed Werner was speaking to clubs about a potential loan in order to play more regularly ahead of Germany hosting Euro 2024 next summer.

Tottenham previously tried to sign Werner as a teenager in 2015 before he opted to move to Chelsea in 2020. The German international scored 23 goals across two seasons at Chelsea, en route to the club win the UEFA Champions League in 2021. However, his finishing abilities were often criticised.

He now looks set for an EPL return with Tottenham as they continue their push for a top-four finish under manager Ange Postecoglou. Werner will provide competition for Son Heung-Min in attack as Spurs fight for European competition next year.
