October 10, (THEWILL) – The UEFA executive committee has approved a joint bid from the Football Associations of the UK and Ireland to host Euro 2028, after Turkey pulled out of the running.

The tournament will be staged across 10 stadiums in England, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Wembley Stadium in London, which hosted the Euro 2020 final, is set to stage the 2028 final and potentially both semi-finals. The 90,000-capacity venue first opened in 1923 and is celebrating its centenary this year.

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Newcastle United’s St James’ Park are the other English venues chosen as they qualify for the hosting of events of this magnitude as they currently stand.

Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland’s national football stadium, will also host matches. In Northern Ireland, Casement Park in Belfast is scheduled for completion in 2026 and will provide a 34,500-capacity venue. Hampden Park in Glasgow, Scotland and Cardiff’s Principality Stadium complete the list.

The UK and Ireland bid was approved after Turkey withdrew its rival proposal to host the tournament. Work is now underway to upgrade transport links and expand stadium capacities in preparation for the 24-team competition, which kicks off in just under five years.
