November 24, (THEWILL) – Julian Ward, the Sporting Director at Liverpool, is set to resign at the end of the current campaign.
Despite only replacing Michael Edwards as Director last summer, the 41-year-old has notified the club’s owners that he plans to take a break from football. He will stay in the position until May, as Liverpool decides how to best go forward.
In 2012, Ward joined the team from Manchester City as their manager of European scouting for Spain and Portugal. Three years later, he was named Manager of Loan Channels and Partnerships, and his duties increased as a result.
He received a promotion to the position of assistant sporting director in December 2020, and when Edwards opted to resign at the conclusion of the previous campaign, he was given the top position.
Liverpool resumes action after the World Cup away at Manchester City in the EFL Cup on Thursday, December 22, before taking on Aston Villa on Boxing Day at Villa Park.
