May 15, (THEWILL)- Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid produced a scintillating attacking performance to thrash Alaves 5-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday evening. Widespread expectations of a weakened Los Blancos lineup proved unfounded as the Italian boss fielded a strong side that tore apart the visitors.
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring early on, misitting a volley that looped over the goalkeeper. Vinicius Junior added a second, tapping in from close range after Eduardo Camavinga’s low cross. Federico Valverde’s thunderbolt into the top corner made it 3-0 before half-time as Madrid ran riot.
The second half followed a similar pattern. Vinicius grabbed his second of the night, crashing home after a delightful through ball from Bellingham. Young Turkish star Arda Guler capped the rout with a late fifth as Alaves had no answer to Madrid’s incessant attacking quality.
Thibaut Courtois performed admirably when called upon, denying Samu Omorodion twice in the opening minutes and later thwarting Ianis Hagi’s long-range effort. Yet, this was a night when Madrid’s frightening array of attacking talent took centre stage.
