July 11, (THEWILL) – Former Manchester United goalkeeper, Edwin van der Sar, remains in intensive care, but is now in a stable condition after suffering a brain haemorrhage last week.

The 52-year-old Dutchman was admitted to a hospital in Split, Croatia, while on holiday. His wife, Annemarie, confirmed that although he is still in the intensive care unit, he is not in immediate life-threatening danger. Ajax Amsterdam, where van der Sar was a director until recently, released a statement providing an update on his condition and emphasised that he has been communicative during their visits.

“Edwin is still in the intensive care unit but is stable. He is not in life-threatening danger,” Ajax shared, quoting his wife. “Every time we get to visit him, he’s communicative. We have to wait patiently to see how his situation will develop.” The family is awaiting further developments and the progression of his recovery.

Van der Sar enjoyed a successful six-year stint as a player at Manchester United before leaving in 2011. Earlier this year, he stepped down from his position at Ajax as the club finished third in the Dutch league, missing out on a UEFA Champions League qualification berth for the first time since 2009. The football community has shown support for van der Sar, and fans are eagerly waiting for more positive news regarding his health and well-being.
