January 31, (THEWILL) – Donny van de Beek, a Manchester United midfielder, has reportedly completed his Everton physical ahead of a loan transfer to Goodison Park.
Since his £40 million transfer from Ajax 17 months ago, Van de Beek has failed to start a Premier League game this season and has only started four times in total. Yet, United had been hesitant to let the Netherlands international depart this month. A move appeared unlikely until the last few days.
Crystal Palace pushed for a loan deal at first, with Van de Beek’s representatives pushing from the inside in the hopes of getting him some playing time.
The concern for Palace was that if United backed down, other interested clubs, such as Everton, would present Van de Beek with a plethora of options to examine.
That was the situation with Everton, who were willing to satisfy United’s expectations in terms of covering the player’s full salaries as well as paying a loan fee.
There is no option to buy as part of the arrangement, as there has been for a number of players who have left Old Trafford on loan in recent years, including Jesse Lingard to West Ham in the second half of last season.
Van de Beek’s medical was completed on Monday morning, and it is now believed that an official announcement about the transfer will be made soon.
Everton are hoping for a better second half of the season now that Frank Lampard has been hired as their new manager following the firing of Rafa Benitez.
