January 13, (THEWILL) – Manchester United midfielder, Donny van de Beek, has been ruled out for the rest of the season, after suffering a knee injury during the club’s English Premier League match against Bournemouth on January 3rd.
The Dutchman, who was making his first start since November, was forced to leave the field just before half-time following a strong challenge from Marcos Senesi.
Speaking about the situation, Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, said: “On the long term it is looking really good, he will be back for the start of pre-season. The rest of the season he is out.” Ten Hag went on to say that the team’s thoughts are with Van de Beek, calling it a “terrible” and “disappointing” injury.
Van de Beek has made ten appearances for United this season and his absence comes at a crucial time for the club, who are currently on an eight game winning streak and are set to take on rivals Manchester City this weekend. City, who are second in the Premier League table, have recently suffered a shock exit from the League Cup and have won just two of their last four league matches.
Despite this, Ten Hag insisted that his team is focused on playing their best game and not solely interested in revenge for their previous 6-3 loss to City. “It is not about that game anymore. It is the past, it is about the future,” he said.
