October 24, (THEWILL) – When Real Madrid take on RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday, they will be missing midfielders Federico Valverde and Luka Modric.
In Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Sevilla, Uruguayan international, Valverde, who is having a breakout season at the Bernabeu, was caught on the knee by Papu Gomez. Although he played the entire 90 minutes, Valverde was limping in the closing minutes.
In Carlo Ancelotti’s post-match comments, the manager said: “He has a knock on his leg, it bothers him a bit, we have to see him. I don’t know if he will be able to recover [in time to face Leipzig].”
Fortunately, scans returned positive results for the 24-year-old and it was revealed that his injury is not much more than a hard knock, which, while uncomfortable, will not keep him out for very long even if he will not be on the field against Leipzig.
Additionally, Modric’s absence from the trip to Germany has been confirmed by Real Madrid, albeit they have not provided an explanation.
