Uzoho’s Heroics Undone By Late McTominay Goal In Man Utd’s 1-0 Defeat Of Omonia

October 14, (THEWILL) – On Thursday, Manchester United laboured to a 1-0 Europa League victory over Omonia Nicosia at Old Trafford thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Scott McTominay that spared Marcus Rashford a world of embarrassment.

The leading scorer for United this year, Rashford, had a monstrous 10 attempts at goal, but Nigeria’s Francis Uzoho’s excellent goalkeeping kept most of the shots away as did the Red Devils’ wayward finishing.

Despite unproductive efforts in front of goal and the alertness of Uzoho, United laboured to secure a third straight victory in Group E thanks to substitute McTominay’s heroics three minutes into extra time.

Erik ten Hag’s team now only needs a point from their next two group matches against Sheriff and Real Sociedad in order to guarantee their place in the knockout rounds.

The Red Devils welcome Newcastle United on Sunday, and Omonia play Nea Salamis the following day as both teams resume domestic play in their next fixtures.
