December 17, (THEWILL) – Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has promised to remain a friend of the Imo Journalists, urging them to continue to improve on professionalism.
Uzodimma said this while delivering his speech at the grand finale of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Council 2023 Press Week, held at the New NUJ Secretariat, Owerri.
The Governor, who was represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Declan Emelumba, said the present administration of Sen. Hope Uzodimma, has remained a Media-friendly Governor.
He commended the Chairman, Imo NUJ, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, for his leadership style, saying the Council Chairman has shown initiative and is a constructive partner to the government.
“I want to assure you, that the government of Distinguished Sen. Hope Uzodimma, will remain a friend of Journalists. I have worked with past governors in the State but I must tell you that Sen. Uzodimma is the only Governor that established a media award of excellence for Journalists.”
In his welcome address at the occasion, the Imo NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ifeanyi Nwanguma, said the Imo State Council 2023 Press Week, with the theme: ‘Journalism in the 21st Century’, was adopted to support the fact that without viable media, Democracy will never thrive.
He thanked the Governor, Hope Uzodimma, for his support and assistance to the State Council, especially the release of check-off dues and imprest.
The Imo NUJ Chairman also thanked the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Chief Emelumba, the National President, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Chris Isiguzo and others for honouring the invitation.
