August 10, (THEWILL) – The United States men’s 4x400m relay team claimed victory at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, setting a new Olympic record in the process.

The quartet of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Deadmon, and Rai Benjamin clocked a time of two minutes 54.43 seconds to take gold.

Benjamin, who had already won individual gold in the 400m earlier in the Games, ran the anchor leg for the American team. Their performance broke the previous Olympic record in the event.

Botswana finished second, earning a silver medal with an African record time of 2:54.53. The Botswana team featured 200m champion Letsile Tebogo running the final leg. Great Britain rounded out the podium, taking bronze with a European record of 2:55.83.

The victory adds to the United States’ strong track and field performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It also continues the country’s tradition of success in the 4x400m relay event.

This result marks a significant achievement for all three medal-winning teams, with each setting continental or Olympic records. The close finish between the top two teams demonstrates the high level of competition in the event.
