Unrelenting Man U Fans Sustain Protest Against Club Owners, Glazer Family

BEVERLY HILLS, April 25, (THEWILL) – Fans and supporters of the English Premier League side Manchester United added a plane banner to the tools of their protests, which was flown over Elland Road as demonstrations continue against the Glazer family over several contending issues that the fans have about the family’s continued ownership over the club.

The plane in question passed over the stadium with an attached banner which read: “2bn stolen, #GlazersOut” as United were preparing for their Premier League fixture at Elland Road in Leeds. The amount is related to the reported figure of money the club has lost since the 2015 purchase of the club by the Glazer family.

The Glazers have never been more unpopular as in recent times, with an intensification of the demonstrations in recent days following the aborted attempt to take the club into the controversial European Super League (ESL) after the league’s composition, format and plans were announced on the night of Sunday, April 18.

One of the big six of English football, United were among 12 clubs, who announced they were joining the new competition before sheepishly backing out after widespread criticism and worldwide condemnation.

Although the administrative voices at Old Trafford claimed there was no immediate and direct assocation between the resignation of Executive Vice Chairman, Ed Woodward, and the reversal of the decision to be part of the ESL, it was a very tough position to sell. That and an apology from co-owner Joel Glazer, did not convince the group of protesting fans.

These fans have openly continued to campaign for the family to sell the club, both at the club’s Carrington training ground and at Old Trafford. Similar protests have taken place by fans of Chelsea and Arsenal, two other founding members of the collapsed plans for a closed-system styled ESL.

The Leeds fans joined to express similar fury over the proposals of the ESL. A banner outside the stadium took aim at their long-time rivals with the words: “Manchester United! Nonsense! What a joke! FIND A NEW, MORE APPROPRIATE NAME!

“This was always coming, given the soulless, win at all costs, plastic shallow, selfish, worthless money monster you have made of yourselves! Earn it on the pitch! Football is for the fans!”
