University of Calabar Teaching Hospital Reports Five Confirmed COVID-19 Cases

BEVERLY HILLS, July 04, (THEWILL) – Five persons have tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 in Cross River State, puncturing the state government’s ridiculous posturing that the state is free of the pandemic.

The samples were taken at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) and sent for testing, the Chief Medical Director of the UCTH, Dr. Ikpeme Ikpeme, told staffers in an internal memo Friday.

He said the samples were tested in a laboratory approved by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) in Abakiliki, Ebonyi State, where the Governor, Dave Umahi and some of his aides tested positive Saturday.

Amongst those that tested positive are two employees of the UCTH, who are responding positively to treatment, the CMD said.

“We wish to reassure our staff and patients that a positive COVID-19 test is neither a death sentence nor a reason for any type of fear or stigmatization.

“As stated above, our medical personnel have recovered. We urge all our staff and patients to abide by all the guidelines on hand and respiratory hygiene as advised by the state and federal government through their various agencies, especially the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control.
