SAN FRANCISCO, March 02, (THEWILL) – The Umu Anioma Foundation worldwide has endorsed the aspiration of Hon. Victor Ochei, the Accord Party Candidate for Delta North Senatorial seat, in the March 28 election.
Victor Ochei was first elected to the Delta State House of Assembly as the member representing Aniocha North Constituency. And on June 6, 2011, Ochei was elected by his colleagues as Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, a position he maintained for two years and nine months making him the longest serving Speaker in the history of Delta State of Assembly.
Ochei’s endorsement was conveyed in a statement jointly signed, Monday, by Jude O. Okolo, Secretary General, Umu Anioma Foundation; Chief John Nwafor, Board of Director Member and Lagos Chapter Coordinator; Mrs. Mabel Magbulu-Awuse,
Board of Director Member; Isaac C. Eke, Board Member and Abuja Chapter Coordinator and Prince Emmanuel O. Ohai, Convener, Umu Anioma Worldwide.
The statement said: “With the election campaign drawing to conclusion, we recognise that in all human endeavours experience counts. We credit Ochei for his experience in law making and find that at this point and time in our history as Anioma people, he is the best qualified candidate to represent us at the Red Chamber.
“Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei sponsored new laws such as the anti-kidnapping and anti-terrorism bill 2012, which many Umu Anioma admit has helped to curb the menace of kidnapping in Delta State. Also Ochei’s masterful legislative skills and gift of oratory is credited for the bridging of the gap between the Legislature and the Executive, while the legislature still maintained its independence.
“Rt. Hon. Victor has always had an ear and concern for the bread and butter issues of his Constituents and instances when these issues tally with his own personal convictions, has always been willing to buck his own political party, at least occasionally, so he can be true to the people for whom he is accountable.
“For instance in 2014 during the debate on the Delta State Model Primary School an Executive Bill that originated from the Governor, Rt. Hon Ochei, based on his experience, devotion to his Constituents and personal conviction led a group of legislators to shoot down the “anti-people” bill, describing it as a deprivation of quality education to Delta children.
“During the debate on the floor, Ochei noted that the Assembly had earlier passed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) law, which makes it compulsory for every Delta child to benefit from the free and compulsory education being run by the State Government, claiming that if the Governor’s bill was allowed to pass as proposed by the Governor, school fees will be attached to the running of the Model Primary Schools.
“Under Ochei’s leadership, the 5th Assembly unearthed hundreds of ghost workers who had cost the state hundreds of millions of naira in wages. Whether or not you agree with him always, Ochei has been effective and that is a good reason why we are proud to endorse Victor Ochei in this critically important race for the Delta North Senate seat.”
