September 29, (THEWILL) – UEFA has extended Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s suspension following his red card against BSC Young Boys in the opening Group F match.
The English defender was originally suspended for only United’s match against Villarreal due to the red card, but UEFA has now prolonged the suspension.
Before United’s match against Villarreal on Wednesday, UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body reached the decision to extend Wan-Bissaka’s suspension for another Champions League match “for violent play” against BSC Young Boys.
According to the UEFA statement, the Old Trafford side has now informed Wan-Bissaka of the decision, implying that the defender will be forced to miss United’s match against Atalanta on October 20 at Old Trafford as a result.
Some United fans may be surprised by the news, especially as Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne was only shown a yellow card on Tuesday for an almost identical challenge against Paris Saint-Germain in the same league.
In United’s Champions League games against Villarreal and Atalanta, Diogo Dalot is expected to fill in for Wan-Bissaka at the Red Devils’ backline.
