December 05, (THEWILL) – A number of top English clubs are monitoring 17-year-old German striker, Max Moerstedt. The teenage Hoffenheim player’s reputation is growing after a standout 2023 Under-17 World Cup performance helped Germany lift the trophy.
Moerstedt, who will turn 18 in January, is close to breaking into the Bundesliga club’s senior squad. Previously on the books of Bayern Munich’s Academy, he already stands at 6’4 despite his young age and is seen as a traditional centre-forward with enormous potential.
The 2023 U17 World Cup hosted in Indonesia is where Moerstedt truly shone on the global stage. He found the net four times for the champions, including converting a penalty in the climactic shootout triumph against France. Manchester United and Chelsea scouts took notice, as did those from Brighton and Hove Albion’s highly regarded talent identification set-up.
Domestically, Moerstedt enjoyed a blistering start to the current campaign before heading to Indonesia. He scored 10 goals in just nine Under-19 League matches for Hoffenheim, including putting four past Heidenheim and hitting hat-tricks against Kaiserslautern and former club Bayern Munich’s youth team. He also netted twice in a German U19 cup demolition of Borussia Dortmund.
The first half of the campaign saw Moerstedt excel for Hoffenheim’s U17s, directly involved in 16 goals (scoring and assisting) in only 11 appearances. This prompted his promotion to the older age group where he continues to star. Another step up is imminent as he stands on the cusp of a remarkable senior debut.
