Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, retired Nigeria Army lieutenant general and husband to Senator Daisy Danjuma, has clocked 85. The respected former military officer clocked 85 last week and accolades have been pouring in for the man who played a key role in post-independence military and political events in Nigeria. Unlike his wife, Daisy who likes to throw lavish parties with the crème la de crème in attendance, the former military lieutenant is not one to stage a high octane soiree.
He prefers his quiet celebration with his better half, children and his grandchildren. Providence surely smiled on Danjuma when he was young that he was able to amass enormous wealth through hard work with his shipping and petroleum business. His brainchild, COMET Shipping Agency which was established in 1984 acted as an agent for the Nigerian American Line, NAL. He also established South Atlantic Petroleum, SAPETRO, the company that was among the few who got an Oil Processing License many years ago.
Despite being a retired military lieutenant, he has enjoyed numerous political appointments with different governments in the country. He was appointed the chairperson on the investigative committee on the Warri conflict, Minister of Defence to President Olusegun Obasanjo’s cabinet and some other important committees in the country. Many do not know that Danjuma is a philanthropist, his foundation, TY Danjuma has provided succour for a lot of indigent people across the country.
