February 24, (THEWILL) – In Group C of the TotalEnergies 2023 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations, the Young Carthage Eagles of Tunisia held Benin to a goalless draw on Friday, at the Haras El Hodoud Stadium in Alexandria.
The two teams were hoping to get their campaign back on track, following their mixed results in the first match day of the group. Tunisia lost 1-0 to The Gambia in their opening fixture while Benin conceded a 2-1 lead to draw against the Young Copper Bullets of Zambia.
The match was highly competitive with few real goal-scoring chances for either side. Benin’s Rodolfo Aloko and Olatoundji Tessilimi were their threats in attack, with Hassane Imourane missing a fierce drive from distance on the half-hour mark. Meanwhile, Tunisia had the best chance of the half five minutes before the break when Aziz Abid cut into the Benin box, but his effort was straight into the midriff of goalkeeper Rahman Karim.
The second half was an even contest with no creativity in the final third, resulting in a stalemate. Benin’s Olatoundji Tessilimi had the best opportunity to score when he rounded the keeper but failed to hit the target with his effort cleared.
Tunisia picked up one point from the draw, while Benin collected their second points of the group.
