March 19, (THEWILL) – Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, has stated that he wants the club’s new owners to prioritise trophy wins over all other considerations.
Prospective bidders had until late Friday to submit formal proposals to succeed Roman Abramovich, who is expected to have some control, in which bids advance to the next stage of discussions.
Although some buyers have made their intentions known, it is believed that more than 30 bids were lodged before the deadline on Friday. Abramovich has set a £3 billion asking price, but most of the proposals have fallen short of that mark.
Tuchel emphasised that the new owners must be determined to win trophies and not regard Chelsea as a money-making organisation, given their willingness to pay such a high price.
“If somebody buys a club for this amount of money, then it’s about challenging on the highest kind of level, then it’s about trophies, then it’s about winning and then it’s about being the best you can,” Tuchel said. “It’s not about developing a project, it’s not about making money with the club.
“Who am I? I don’t know the ideas behind buying a club or any organisation for this amount of money, because I cannot afford it and I will never be able to. But that’s what I hope and what I think. I think Chelsea as a club and a structure and an organisation has an awful to offer, and that’s why the price is like it is.”
Tuchel also used the opportunity to dismiss reports linking him with Manchester United, stating that despite the off-field instability, he is 100% dedicated to Chelsea.
