November 16, (THEWILL) – Striker Ivan Toney is seeking a move away from Brentford and wants a release clause inserted into any new contract talks.
The 27-year-old has 18 months remaining on his current deal, but has attracted interest from Arsenal and Chelsea. Brentford are demanding over £80 million to sell their star man in January, a figure which has surprised Toney.
With such a high valuation likely blocking a winter transfer, Toney is now considering signing a contract extension with a reasonable exit clause. This would allow Brentford to protect his value, while also facilitating a future move for Toney, who would secure a pay rise too.

Toney remains keen to leave this month, but the high asking price may deter Arsenal and Chelsea, who are evaluating other options like Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez. Brentford hope offering a new contract and compromise on a release clause could persuade Toney to stay.
The striker is currently suspended until January 17 for breaching betting rules. If he remains at Brentford, Toney could face Chelsea and Arsenal in March, as he pushes for a move away.
