Tinubu Returns To Abuja After Attending 37th AU Summit In Addis Ababa

February 19, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has returned to Abuja from Addis Ababa, the Ethiopia capital, where he participated in the 37th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Africa Union (AU).

President Tinubu, who arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 3:36 pm on Monday, was received by senior government officials, led by the Secretary to the Government of the Federal (SGF), Senator George Akume.

While in Ethiopia, the President actively participated in the 44th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council, held bilateral meetings and attended other events on the sidelines of the AU summit.

The President, who arrived in Ethiopia, on Thursday night, at past 10 pm, was accompanied on the trip by some ministers and other top government officials.

Tinubu joined other African leaders in high-level meetings on institutional reforms of the African Union; peace and security; specific thematic issues such as climate change, as well as modalities of participation and priorities of the continental body in the G20.

The theme of the year’s summit is ‘‘Educate an African Fit for the 21st Century: Building Resilient Education Systems for Increased Access to Inclusive, lifelong, quality, and Relevant Learning in Africa.’’

President Tinubu joined other African leaders in high-level meetings on institutional reforms of the African Union; peace and security; specific thematic issues such as climate change, as well as modalities of participation and priorities of the continental body in the G20.

On the margins of the summit, President Tinubu also attended an extraordinary summit of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS in his capacity as the Chairman of the regional body.

Tinubu was recently appointed as the champion for Health by the AU.
