The renewed appointments will take effect on October 20, 2026, extending the tenure of the two media executives who were first appointed by President Tinubu on October 20, 2023.

Dembos brings decades of experience within the NTA to the position, having risen from an announcer to senior management positions and previously served as executive director of marketing after retiring from the authority in 2017.

August 24, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has renewed the tenure of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.
A statement issued by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, informed that the second term of the two chief executives will commence on October 20, 2026.
President Tinubu initially appointed Dembos and Ali on October 20, 2023, and they have since overseen the affairs of the two government-owned media organisations.
The President, while renewing their appointments, urged both executives to justify the confidence reposed in them by sustaining their commitment to the mandates of their respective organisations. He also charged them to continue supporting the promotion of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Dembos, an indigene of Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster who spent several decades within the NTA system. He joined the NTA as an announcer at its Kaduna station in 1989, following his National Youth Service.
He subsequently rose through the ranks and served as General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano before attaining higher management responsibilities within the organisation.
Dembos retired from the NTA in 2017 as the acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre. Following his retirement, he returned to the organisation in an executive capacity, serving as Executive Director of Marketing.
He also previously served as National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU), the umbrella union representing workers in Nigeria’s broadcasting and creative sectors.
Ali, on the other hand, is a veteran journalist and media manager with more than three decades of professional experience. His career has been marked by a focus on journalism, media management and the changing dynamics of news dissemination, particularly in an increasingly digital environment.

The Presidency said Ali has demonstrated keen interest in media evolution and content development, with emphasis on addressing the information needs of Nigeria’s diverse population amid the growing availability of alternative news sources.
Ali holds a first degree in English from Bayero University, Kano. He also obtained a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Bayero University, Kano.
The Presidency said the President expects the two chief executives to sustain their commitment to the development of their respective organisations and to the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
