Tinubu Released Private Jet With Which Jammeh Flew Into Exile – Report

SAN FRANCISCO, January 23, (THEWILL) – A national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaja Bola Tinubu released his private jet to be used in flying ousted president of The Gambia, Yahya Jammeh out of Banjul into exile, the Nation reports.

He authorised the release of the aircraft after Guinean President Alpha Conde and his Mauritanian counterpart, Mohammed Ould Abdel Aziz, reached out to him after both leaders succeeded in prevailing on Jammeh to quit office.

The former Lagos governor’s VP-CBT Falcon Jet had been in Guinea with President Conde, who is a close friend of the leading Nigerian politician.

Following Jammeh’s acceptance to go, late on Saturday night, Tinubu was contacted to allow the use of his jet to fly Jammeh out of the country’s capital.

The newspaper reports that he gave a condition that it should only be used “if it will facilitate the quick exit of Jammeh and lead to the restoration of peace and democracy in The Gambia”.

The plane eventually flew out Jammeh, with his wife, mother and President Conde on board.

Senegal, the newspaper gathered, insisted on knowing those on board before allowing it to overfly its airspace. With this request granted, Jammeh was flown to Equitorial Guinea where he will be on exile

Jammeh’s exit now paves the way for the return of President Adama Barrow, who defeated him in the December 1 election, to take over office after been sworn inon Thursdayin Dakar, Senegal.
