Governor assures that the lingering local government crisis involving APC chairmen and elected PDP chairmen and councillors will be resolved before the end of 2026.
October 28, (THEWILL) – Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has ruled out any agreement to share legislative and local government positions with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections, insisting that the political alliance supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election is not a merger of the parties.
Adeleke said the understanding between him and his political partners was limited to the presidential election, dismissing reports that positions in the Senate, House of Representatives, Osun State House of Assembly and local government councils had been shared between Accord and the APC.
The governor’s clarification followed claims circulating on social media that an alleged agreement between him and the Presidency ahead of the 2027 elections included a sharing arrangement for elective positions in the state.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke described the reports as “mere fabrication and fake news”.
He said the discussions surrounding the local government crisis were intended to protect the interests of the various stakeholders and restore grassroots administration, rather than facilitate a political arrangement for the distribution of elective positions.
“As the governor of all Osun indigenes and residents, we are working to resolve the local government matter by ensuring that all interests are protected and cared for”, the statement quoted him as saying.
The governor added that stakeholders recognised the restoration of grassroots governance as necessary for their political activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
“As of now, all stakeholders agree that restoring grassroots governance is a condition for our successful campaign ahead of the 2027 elections”, he said.
Adeleke assured residents that the local government crisis would be resolved before the end of the year, while maintaining that negotiations over the dispute did not amount to an agreement to concede legislative seats to the APC.

He also reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s re-election, stressing that the presidential alliance would not prevent the participating parties from pursuing their separate interests in other elections.
“What unites the coalition partners is only the presidential election”, the governor said.
According to him, the objective of the coalition is to bring political stakeholders together to ensure Tinubu secures another term in office, without extending the arrangement to legislative contests.
“As I said while inaugurating the Presidential Campaign Council, the coalition is targeted at the presidential election. Partners agreed to join hands to ensure our dear President is re-elected”, he stated.
Adeleke stated that Accord would field candidates for the legislative elections and that he would personally campaign for them, ruling out any arrangement to share the positions with the APC.
“I will work and campaign for Accord candidates for Senate, House of Representatives and the State House of Assembly”, he added.
He urged the political parties involved in the presidential coalition to support their respective candidates in the other elections, noting that the electorate would determine the winners.
“I urge all political parties to campaign for their candidates as I will do for Accord candidates. We have no deal on the National Assembly and the State Assembly elections. All our candidates will face the electorate, who have the final say”, Adeleke concluded.
