September 24, (THEWILL) – Former Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has predicted a bleak future for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), after the Edo State governorship election, saying: “With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass”.
Melaye, a candidate of the PDP in the last gubernatorial election in Kogi State, made the remarks in reaction to last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State, in which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), declared Senator Monday Okpebholo of the APC, as the winner of the election.
Taking to his verified X handle, the former lawmaker expressed concern about the outcome of the election and the direction in which the PDP is heading under Iliya Umar Damagum’s leadership.
He alleged that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) is dominated by members of the APC who choreographed the loss of Edo.
“With the destroyer called Damagun on the wheels, PDP is in the departure lounge waiting for the boarding pass. Edo experience will be a joke, there are more APCs in the NWC than PDP”, he said.
Melaye was recently suspended for anti-party activities for alleged misconduct and failing to honour a summons by the PDP.
His suspension came after he accused the acting PDP national chairman, Damagum, the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the national organising secretary, Umar Bature, of destroying the party.
