Nigeria has assumed the chairmanship of the United Nations Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations, C-34, with its Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, pledging to push for a more effective, accountable and field-oriented approach to international peacekeeping.

Guterres issued the warning in New York while opening the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, where he called on member states to urgently restore faith in multilateral cooperation and international institutions.

The annual loss is equivalent to about 0.5 percent of global GDP, while every $1 invested in tackling both problems together could generate around $15 in economic benefits, the report found.

Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim, who assumed the chairmanship for the 81st session, has pledged to use the position to push far-reaching reforms aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability and value for money within the world body.
