The Federal Government on Monday withdrew the eight-count forgery case against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the self-appointed Director-General of the alleged non-existent Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC), but said it would institute fresh charges against him before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Adeyemi was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar by the Federal Government through the police following allegations that he falsely presented himself as the Director-General of the purported council and used forged documents to give the organisation an appearance of official government backing.

The court specifically granted the sixth relief sought by the applicant, directing the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Nigeria Police Force and other relevant authorities to permit Adeyemi unfettered access to his legal practitioners for as long as he remains in custody.

The committee, chaired by Yusuf Adamu Gagdi, said its preliminary investigation showed that the organisation was not lawfully established by the Federal Government, while documents allegedly deployed to confer presidential and legislative legitimacy on it were found to be forged, fabricated or altered.
