September 14, (THEWILL) – A leadership crisis within the Park Management System in Osun State has turned deadly following the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir or Ajagungbade, during a peace meeting in Ile-Ife.
Oyeyemi, who was an ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was reportedly killed while attending a meeting convened as part of efforts to resolve the lingering dispute between rival factions over the control and management of motor parks in the state.
He was said to have travelled to Ile-Ife for the peace meeting with a group loyal to the factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Nurudeen Alowonle.
The group was reportedly led by the chairman of mini-bus operators, identified as Sobi, at the Mayfair area of Ile-Ife.
Details surrounding the incident remained sketchy as of the time of filing this report, including what transpired during the meeting and the circumstances that led to Oyeyemi’s death.

In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke directed the police to investigate the killing and ensure that all those found responsible are brought to justice.
The governor linked the incident to the leadership tussle over the control of motor parks, describing the situation as requiring immediate government and security intervention.

The directive means that the rival groups involved in the dispute are to vacate the motor parks while the government puts in place a new management structure.
Adeleke further charged the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to prevent the latest incident from degenerating into reprisal attacks or further clashes.
